WHAT WE DO

YOUR HELP NEEDED:
A Wallingford resident has graciously volunteered space in his greenhouse to prep plant starts for Lettuce Link and area food bank P-Patches. We are looking for 4-inch pots as the plants get a little larger. Please look in your garages and consider donating your extras.  I’d be happy to pick them up (email abbyklingbeil@yahoo.com), or you can drop them off at Cyrus’s house, 3532 Meridian Ave. N (please leave them just outside the gate down the driveway). Thanks for your help providing fresh produce for people in need!

Our mission: To learn from our neighbors and share what we know about growing food; to develop programs to engage the community; and to provide fresh produce to those who have limited access to it.

Who we are: We are volunteers who live in Wallingford and are interested in growing food, developing community and expanding access to fresh produce.

What we do: We meet to share growing tips and develop programs. We hold informal classes and host programs. We partner with related groups whenever possible.

EVENTS

NEXT EVENT:
Join Wallingford Walks and Growing Food, Growing Community to learn more about getting your garden ready for planting. The garden walk is Saturday, March 21, starting at 10 AM at Tully's on 45th. We'll stop by the food bank P-Patch, then head to two wonderful gardens north of 50th.

PAST EVENTS:
Experienced gardeners shared what they know during edible garden walks this spring and summer:

Our first walk was Monday, May 5, 2008. We visited three residential edible gardens in the 50s and the Good Shepherd P-Patch. Our second walk was Tuesday, July 22. We visited two edible gardens on Burke Street and gathered for dessert afterward.

In the fall, our efforts turned to food preservation and winter gardening:

On Wednesday, Oct. 1, we held an apple sauce-making event at the Wallingford Senior Center with folks from Lettuce Link, Apple Corps and King County Public Health.

On Thursday, Nov. 20, Brad Halm from Seattle Urban Farm Co. answered questions about garden planning for spring, winter gardens, putting in your own garden, and any other garden-related topics we would like to discuss at the Mosaic Coffee House
